Taking a walk down memory lane show cases the advancements that have been made within the education system to improve the quality of learning, who would have ever thought that something like a learning management system could be invented to facilitate distant learning creating an easier way for students to further their education? The progression from education then to education now is simply nothing less than an immense accomplishment, yet there seems to be continuous initiatives to develop new ways to further education. With technology constantly striving to breakthrough new walls, it should not surprise us as a new generation of technology within the learning management system begins to develop.

Looking back to the 1700’s, school houses only had one room with multiple age groups all learning the same material and marked the early stages of calculators as abacuses were used for mathematics. A great opportunity was presented as schools began to widely develop, opening their doors for children of all color, age, social class, and gender. Students, for the first time, were divided up based on their age and placed in age specific classrooms with their own course material that proved to be age appropriate. Now we fast forward to the day when computers were first integrated and introduced into the schools. They soon made their way into the curriculum and computer classes were made mandatory for students to learn basic skills like typing.

Technology never ceases to amaze us with their innovative creations, and the introduction to wireless internet was no exception. It can now be found on most every college campus, internet cafes or free wifi signs have been popping up at local coffee houses, workplaces offer wireless internet and even some residential living areas.Even High School students are turning to the web to complete assignments and view their up and coming projects. As a result of this new development Parents are now able to view their child’s progress in their classes with the online report card feature. Universities are cashing in with the new online learning trend as they create distant learning programs that enable students to receive their degree online via learning management system.

Technology is moving forward continuously as it tries to seek new ways to create an even more efficient and useful means for higher education.This has resulted in new interactive courses being implemented into the curriculum with virtual instructor led webinars, advanced assessment tools to measure students’ comprehension and reaction to the material. With the different learning methods, content developers have implemented each style; visual, auditory, and kinetic, to their curriculum material to ensure the greatest amount of comprehension for their learners. The door of opportunity to further education has been made available to us via the learning management system and valuable learning tools that have been proven to be extremely valuable. To see how far we have come is truly something to be proud of and excited about as we continue to look towards the future to its promising progressions that are sure to come.
