Learning Management System: Is Traditional Education History?
Taking a look through history it is truly amazing to see the advancements that have been developed, but who would have thought education would move to the web via a learning management system? The progression from education then to education now is simply nothing less than an immense accomplishment, yet there seems to be continuous initiatives to develop new ways to further education. With technology constantly striving to breakthrough new walls, it should not surprise us as a new generation of technology within the learning management system begins to develop.
Back in the 1700’s classrooms were very minimalistic with a one room school house containing multiple age groups. Schools began to develop quickly and as a result the doors of opportunity were opened for students not discriminating against, age, social class, ethnicity, or gender. Students, for the first time, were divided up based on their age and placed in age specific classrooms with their own course material that proved to be age appropriate. Now moving ahead a few centuries to when computers were successfully integrated into schools. They soon made their way into the curriculum and computer classes were made mandatory for students to learn basic skills like typing.
Everyone went wild when the innovative wireless internet was introduced to facilitate easier access to the world wide web. Wireless internet has become highly accessible as colleges bring access to their campuses, free wifi is showing up at our favorite local cafes, workplaces have eliminated their abundance of wires, and even residential living complexes are offering wireless internet access. High Schools are starting to revolutionize their system as they too transition to the web, students are now asked to conduct all transactions of assignments online and are able to view their assignment schedules on School’s portals. As a result of this new development Parents are now able to view their child’s progress in their classes with the online report card feature. Even Colleges have acknowledged the value to creating a mobile means of information and have implemented that into education as they are creating distant learning programs via learning management system that enable students to earn their degrees online.
Technology is moving forward continuously as it tries to seek new ways to create an even more efficient and useful means for higher education. An example of this is newly integrated interactive courses that provide virtual instructor led seminars live on the web as well as assessment tools that measure the effectiveness of the course by measuring student’s reactions and scores. Some students differ in how they best learn, and as a result the content developers have answered the call for help by developing material that appeals to all styles of learning to ensure the students receive the most effective learning experience. The door of opportunity has been broken open with so many options to further our education initiatives with the help of the learning management system and valuable tools it provides. It has been an amazing journey from where we started to where we sit now in the education system and knowing that this isn’t the end of new and exciting developments.
